Dishon Plot Outline

This is the original outline I made before I began the story. You’ll notice I didn’t stick to it very well, but this is what I was originally planning

Title Ideas
The Conquest of Dishon
The Invasion of Dishon

Plot
The mighty Empire of Marram plans to conquer the small country of Dishon. When the Emperor Azom puts his army into position, it becomes obvious to the people of Dishon that they must do something or be conquered. The King of Dishon, Recab, uses his whole royal treasury to bribe King Shallum of the once mighty country Calet, to attack Marram and to keep them busy. Calet is greatly defeated, and Shallum is killed in battle.

Back in Calet’s capital city, Seled, Shallum’s 14 year old son, is killed before he can take control of his father’s throne. With no heir to the throne, Calet erupts into a vicious civil war. Perez, a military genius, leaves Calet, convinced that the country’s days are numbered, and comes to Dishon. Under the leadership of Perez, the army of Dishon ambushes part of Marram’s army, and wins a smashing victory. The bold Dishon army then boldly attacks the unsuspecting Marram camp and wins another victory. Azom angrily commands a direct attack on Dishon. Perez strategically places the troops to place a draw.

Azom places a spy in the capital of Dishon to find out who is the brains behind Dishon. The spy is found out by Ishod, friend of Perez. Ishod chases the spy, until the spy grabs an axe and the two fight. Ishod is forced to kill the spy. Azom sends another spy, his pet vulture Azet. Azet is discovered by Tomaz, a robin, but escapes despite efforts to stop him. Azet tells Azom that Perez is the brains. Azom sends a man to kill Perez, but Perez defeats him. Next Azom sends a polar bear to kill Perez, but Perez kills the polar bear. Finally, at great expense, Azom sends a wizard. The wizard kills Gotaz, Nolli, and Mazus, who are in the room with Perez, and puts Ishod under an enchantment. The Wizard then kills Perez, and puts a spirit inside his body. The spirit leads the men of Dishon to believe he is really Perez, while he telepathically tells everything to Azom.

Meanwhile, Polad emerges victorious from the civil war in Calet. He decides to take part in the war, but is undecided about which side to take. He moves his army into position, ready to attack either side. Both Monarchs send him presents and plead, but he still remains undecided. Finally, Tomaz realizes, and tells King Recab, that Polad is just waiting to pick up the pieces after the war.

Recab trusts Perez so much that when the spirit tells Recab to put his main army in a very bad position, Recab follows blindly. A surprise attack is made, and the army is slaughtered. Recab becomes suspicious, but the spirit begs for one more chance, suggesting that Recab take what is left of his army and meet the enemy head on. Recab then realizes that there is something wrong with Perez, and attempts to order his guards to arrest Perez. After a brief struggle with the spirit, Recab succeeds in doing so.

From his prison, the spirit tells Azom the poor state of the Dishon army. Azom marches on Dishon, and Recab is forced to send his army head on. The army is smashed, leaving Dishon with no more defenses. Recab sends Tomaz to plead with Polad to assist Dishon. Polad, eager to gain brownie points with Azom, plans to send his army to attack Dishon. It is purely for show of course. Marram has more than enough help. Tomaz is captured and held as a prisoner of war.

When Recab doesn’t hear from Tomaz, he assumes the worst. He gathers together one last desperate army, made up of the common people, men, women, and children, young and old. At this time, a fourth army arrives on the scene. A very large group of nomadic barbarians, eager to find a home. All three wait in suspense to see who they will attack first. In the hopes of making a treaty with the barbarians, Recab looks for a messenger. When he can find no one willing, he goes himself.

The king of the barbarians, who call themselves Nabrits, says his intentions are to conquer Dishon and live there. Recab tries to convince the king, Guth, that Dishon is a battle ground right now, and Marram would take Dishon away from the Nabrits as soon as they got it. When Guth refuses to listen, Recab challenges him publicly in an ancient Nabrit tradition. The two fight to the death in the Arena, and the winner becomes king of the Nabrits. Recab wins.

The “army” of Dishon, lead by Recab’s second in command, Dosut, is bravely battling the army of Marram. The people’s courage and love for freedom is letting them, surprisingly, hold their own. When the Nabrit army arrives on the scene, Marram’s army is forced to flee.

Meanwhile, with all the Dishon forces fighting against Marram, the other border is left weakly protected and the Calet army breaks through and makes it all the way to Dishon’s capital, destroying everything in their path. Recab leaves Dosut in charge of both armies, while he chases Azom. Recab finally catches up to Azom and the two fight. Azom is killed. Meanwhile Dosut defeats Polad’s army, but Dosut himself is killed in the battle.

After the war, Polad hastily makes peaceful relations with Dishon, and returns Tomaz along with great gifts. With these gifts, the service of a sorcerer is bought to bring Ishod out of his enchantment.

With no heir to his throne, Azom’s empire falls apart, and Dishon is safe.
